Today on 11th March State Bank of India (SBI) faced technical issues with its UPI services, causing problems for customers across India. Users were unable to complete UPI transactions through apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm when using SBI accounts. Downdetector showed a sharp increase in complaints about SBI’s UPI services, especially around 2:30 PM IST. Most complaints (60%) are about mobile banking, followed by online banking issues (36%) and login failures (4%).
However SBI acknowledged the issue on X (formerly Twitter), saying UPI services will be fixed and resumed by 5 PM IST on March 11, 2025. The bank recommends using UPI Lite for smooth transactions during this time.
Impact on Other UPI Apps
Since SBI is a key partner for many payment platforms, its outage is also affecting transactions on third-party UPI apps like Google Pay and PhonePe. This can lead to payment failures or pending transactions that don’t complete. But other bank UPI services were still working fine.
