Odisha CM Majhi Directs RDC Inquiry Following Incident of Man Taking Sister’s Remains to Bank

Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, has ordered an investigation into the Keonjhar incident where a man, Jitu Munda, faced trouble withdrawing money from a bank after his sister’s death. He said he is very concerned and unhappy about what happened, as it shows a lack of understanding and care towards common people. He also made it clear that such situations should not happen again.

After the Chief Minister stepped in the local officials acted very quickly and the issue was quickly resolved. They completed all the required paperwork and issued a death certificate and a legal heir certificate (which proves who can receive the money). After that, the bank gave ₹19,300 to the family.

Officials have also started an investigation to understand why the situation reached this point. The bank said they were only following rules and had explained the process to him. They also claimed the man may not have understood the procedure and became upset. According to the bank, their intention was to protect the money and give it only after proper verification.

However, the Chief Minister has ordered a detailed inquiry by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) to find out why there was a delay and who is responsible. He said government officials must act in a more sensitive and helpful way when dealing with people’s problems. The RDC is expected to start the investigation from tomorrow, and steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
