Five armed robbers entered a branch of State Bank of India in Surat, Gujarat, during the afternoon while the bank was open. They were carrying weapons and threatened the staff and customers. The robbers forced everyone into one corner and held them at gunpoint.
After that, they went to the cash counters and the strong room. They also took money from a cash deposit box that had just been brought to the bank by a cash delivery vehicle. In total, they stole around ₹50 lakh and escaped very quickly, so people nearby didn’t even realize what had happened.
Police teams, including the crime branch and forensic experts, quickly reached the spot. The area was sealed, and roads in and out of the city were blocked to try and catch the robbers.
According to DCP Alok Kumar, the police are checking CCTV footage to identify the suspects and their vehicles. So far, five people have been identified, but there could be more involved. The robbers were speaking in Hindi and used weapons to scare people.
