Today (January 27), many government banks in India are not working properly because bank employees are on strike. Because of the bank strike, many government bank branches may be closed or work very slowly. This means things like withdrawing or depositing cash, updating passbooks, using cheques, or getting help at the bank counter may be difficult. Since the strike happened after holidays, it may feel like three days of problems for customers.

They are protesting because they want a five-day working week, so they only work from Monday to Friday. Since their talks with the government did not succeed, they decided to go on strike and stop work.

However, private banks like HDFC, ICICI, and Axis are mostly working as usual. Also, online services such as UPI, ATMs, mobile apps, and net banking will still work, so people can do most basic banking digitally without visiting a branch.
