Julie Singh, the chief manager of the SBI branch at Bypass Road in Baheri, filed a complaint against a mother and her son for cheating a bank by creating a fake business and taking a loan of ₹2.25 crore. She did this after the bank conducted an internal investigation and found something suspicious.
According to the complaint, Afsana and her son Aman, who live near Madina Masjid in Bareilly, went to the bank and falsely claimed that their firm, Electronic Plaza, had a dealership with a well-known electronics company called Value Plus. With help from SBI loan officer Sakshi Singh and her husband Shivam Agrawal, they managed to get a loan of ₹2.25 crore approved on March 29, 2024 without providing any security or guarantor, which is usually required for such large loans.
How the Scam Unfolded?
- During the investigation, it was discovered that a large portion of the loan money ₹1.26 crore was transferred to Vishal Communication (a firm owned by Shivam Agrawal) on April 3, 2024. Another ₹1 crore-plus was sent to the same firm on October 15, 2024. This raised serious suspicion, as the loan was meant for a different business purpose under the name Electronic Plaza.
- When the bank contacted Value Plus, the electronics company that Afsana and Aman claimed to be associated with, the company responded by email saying that they had never given any dealership to Electronic Plaza in Bareilly.
- The bank also found that the documents provided by Afsana and Aman were fake, and both of them were actually working for Vishal Communication.
After a detailed audit, the bank concluded that all four accused Afsana, Aman Hussain, Sakshi Singh, and Shivam Agrawal had collaborated to cheat the bank. They used fake documents and made false claims to fraudulently secure the ₹2.25 crore loan. Baheri SHO Sanjay Singh Tomar said the FIR was registered on Friday, and the police have started a legal investigation.
