Julia Carreon was a senior manager at Citigroup (Citi). She has filed a case (lawsuit) against the bank. She says that while working there, a top executive named Andy Sieg, who led Citi’s wealth management division behaved in a sexually inappropriate way toward her.
According to her, this behavior created a difficult and unfair work environment. As a result, she says she was treated poorly and felt pressured to leave her job. Julia worked at Citigroup from 2021 to 2024 and was hired to help improve the company’s digital wealth management services, such as online investment and money-management tools. She is now taking legal action because she believes Citigroup failed to protect her and did not properly address the situation.
She claims that he called and sent her messages late at night and asked her to sit very close to him during meetings, even though she was not his direct employee. She also says that he told other people they shared a “secret song,” which made coworkers suspicious. Because of these actions, rumors spread in the office that Julia had a romantic relationship with him to get promotions. Julia says these rumors damaged her reputation. People stopped respecting her work and skills, and this made her work environment uncomfortable and unfair.
When she spoke up about the problem, Julia says the company’s HR team did not act fairly. Instead of questioning the senior executive properly, she says HR mainly investigated her. She felt that HR did not protect her and was instead working against her. Because of this, she says she was forced to leave her job in June 2024.
Julia says she was harassed, rumors ruined her career, and the company treated her unfairly. This caused her a lot of stress and emotional pain. That is why she is asking the court for compensation.
Citigroup says the claims are false. The lawsuit is not true and has no real facts behind it. The bank believes the case should be settled through private arbitration instead of going to court. The bank added that they have messages from Julia where she spoke positively about Andy Sieg. One of these messages was sent just before she left the company, in which she called him a great and honest leader.
