Government of Madhya Pradesh Revokes Five-Year Ban on Bank of Baroda After Bank’s Representation

The Government of Madhya Pradesh initially banned Bank of Baroda from handling any government-related work for a period of five years. But within just one day, the bank explained its side of the story (called a “representation”), saying there may have been a misunderstanding or giving clarification about the issue. After hearing this, the government quickly reversed the ban.

What was the case?

The bank was accused of making a mistake in transferring a large amount of money. The government said the bank did not properly transfer ₹1,751 crore under a scheme called Chief Minister Kisan Yojana. The money was supposed to be sent fully using a system called RTGS. But only part of the money was transferred, not the full amount.

Because of this, the Government of Madhya Pradesh believed that Bank of Baroda had caused a financial loss and had not properly followed official instructions. As a result, the government took strict action by banning the bank for five years and stopping it from handling any government funds or treasury-related work.

After hearing the explanation from Bank of Baroda, the Government of Madhya Pradesh quickly reconsidered its decision. Within less than 24 hours, it cancelled the ban and allowed the bank to resume its work with the government.
