The Chandigarh State Cooperative Bank Limited has decided to reserve 85% of its jobs for people who live in Chandigarh. Out of this 85% quota, 15% will be specially reserved for people who originally belong to the villages of Chandigarh. This new rule will apply to all types of job hiring — whether permanent, temporary, part-time, or through outsourcing. The remaining 15% of jobs will be open to people from other states, especially Punjab and Haryana.
This decision was made in a recent high-level meeting led by the bank’s chairman, Satinderpal Singh Sidhu. Bank officials said this decision was made to help local youth, who often don’t get enough job opportunities even though Chandigarh is the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. Since Chandigarh is a Union Territory and works separately from both states, locals were not always given preference in jobs. This new policy aims to fix that.
