Several large Indian banks including SBI, HDFC Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank have announced that they will carry out scheduled maintenance on September 21, 2025. During this maintenance period, the banks will temporarily shut down some of their systems to perform updates or technical improvements. As a result, some banking services will not be available for a few hours.
Services that may be affected:

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) – Digital payments using apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, etc.

Net Banking – Access to your bank account through the web.

Mobile Banking – Using your bank’s app on your phone.

ATM Transactions – Withdrawing or depositing cash via ATM.

RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) – Transferring large amounts of money instantly.
Here’s what each bank has announced:
State Bank of India (SBI) – State Bank of India (SBI) will carry out scheduled maintenance on September 21, 2025, from 12:15 AM to 1:00 AM. During this 45-minute window, SBI UPI services will not work. This means customers won’t be able to make payments or transfers using SBI via UPI apps (like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, etc.).
However an alternative option will be available, customers still use UPI Lite Services, which will keep working.
HDFC Bank – HDFC Bank will carry out scheduled maintenance on September 21, 2025, from 1:00 AM to 5:30 AM. During this time, following services will be temporarily unavailable.
- Mutual Fund Transactions will be unavailable from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Customers won’t be able to buy, sell, or switch mutual fund units during this 4-hour window.

RTGS Money Transfers will be unavailable from 1:00 AM to 5:30 AM. Large-value bank transfers (typically used for amounts over ₹2 lakhs) won’t be possible for 4.5 hours.

Other Services which include: Debit card updates (like enabling/disabling features), password resets, TPT settings (Third Party Transfers setup or changes) won’t be available from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM.
Kotak Mahindra Bank – Kotak Bank will carry out scheduled maintenance on September 21, 2025, from 1:30 AM to 2:30 AM. Some of their services will not work during this one-hour window.
This is just routine maintenance to improve system performance or security. Regular banking features like checking your balance, viewing transactions, or using ATMs might still work but anything involving the services above will be temporarily disabled.
All three banks SBI, HDFC, and Kotak Mahindra Bank have asked customers to plan important transactions in advance and use other available services during the maintenance period.
