Banks like HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), and Jio Payments Bank are updating their ATM rules from April 1, 2026. These changes will affect:
- How many free ATM transactions you get
- How much you can withdraw per day
- How UPI-based cash withdrawal works
HDFC Bank: UPI withdrawals now included in free limit
- Earlier, UPI cash withdrawals at ATMs were not counted in free limits.
- From April 1, UPI-based ATM withdrawals will count as part of your monthly free transactions.
- If an account holder exceeds the monthly free ATM transaction limit, a charge of ₹23 per additional transaction (plus applicable taxes) will be applied.
- Earlier, only card-based ATM withdrawals were counted in the monthly limit. Now, both card and UPI-based cash withdrawals (such as scanning a QR code at an ATM) will be included, meaning UPI cash withdrawals will also reduce your free transaction count.
- This means customer free count can run out faster if they use UPI Withdrawals too.
-
HDFC Bank currently gives 5 free withdrawals at HDFC ATMs, and 3 free at other-bank ATMs in metro cities or 5 free at other-bank ATMs in non-metro cities each month.
Punjab National Bank: Daily withdrawal limit reduced for some cards
- Punjab National Bank (PNB) is revising the daily cash withdrawal limits on certain debit cards.
- Earlier, certain debit cards allowed customers to withdraw up to ₹1,00,000 in a single day. Under the new rules, this limit has been revised, and most cards will now permit daily withdrawals in the range of ₹50,000 to ₹75,000, depending on the specific card type..
- The changes have been introduced to improve customer security and to bring more uniformity in withdrawal limits across different types of debit cards. By lowering and standardizing the limits, the bank aims to reduce risks and ensure safer transactions for all users.
